The Great Gatsby Open Book Test

Take note that this test will be written in class between Friday, 2 August to 7 August 2013.

Preparation for the test should be quite easy, since you have already posed the 15 questions and answers for each Chapter. Those who have not done this will find that you will require more than one period to complete the test as many of you will start reading in the test period.

Do not be deceived! Just because you will have your readers with you does not mean that there will be time to find the answers. While searching for an answer, you will discover that you are reading and some of you, for the first time.

To make sure that you are well prepared, take some advice from the Youtube link below!

Be warned! The load gets heavier everyday and I have high expectations for all of you. To make sure that you succeed and focus on your English distinction, you must have the right attitude. It's true, your attitude determines your altitude. In terms of English, that means your year mark which you are in control of.
Don't give up, no matter what! A year's hardwork will not kill you. Instead, try to imagine the sense of victory you will experience at the end of the year. Do that now! Begin with the end in mind!

I will be available in my office from Monday to Friday, 14:30 to 16:00, to assist you. Work hard and consistently. I have posted the clip below to give you the boost you need - view it about ten times. It will sink in, you can reach your goal!

Checklist for the Reflective Essay

Reflective Essay Checklist

Use this guide to check your essay before you write the final piece on 7 February 2013 in the test period.

Introduction
Does the first sentence grab the reader's attention?
Does the first paragraph provide a general overview of the essay's topic?
Does the first paragraph include a thesis statement that strongly and clearly states your central idea? Will the reader know what the essay is going to be about?

Body Paragraphs
Do they contain personal experiences that relate to your thesis?
Do they describe your emotions related to the topic?
Do they contain facts that support your thesis?
Is the information arranged in a way that makes sense, with similar experiences or ideas grouped together.

Conclusion
Does the last paragraph remind readers of the main points of the essay, without going into too much detail or repeating everything readers just read?
Is the conclusion free of new information (such as another experience)?
Does the last sentence leave readers with a strong final impression?

General
Does one idea flow smoothly into the next?
Do the sentence structures and lengths vary?
Does every sentence relate to the thesis?
Is the essay sincere? Does it truly reflect you?
Have you used the correct grammar, punctuation and spelling?

A final word! Remind me to read my reflective essay to you. I entitled it: " Alopecia my nemesis!"
